Former Providence police detective Joseph Colanduano has been sentenced to 20 years in prison with eight to serve after pleading guilty to drug charges.

Back in December, Colanduono pled guilty to two counts of conspiracy to deliver cocaine, one count of larceny over $500, and one count of harboring a criminal. In recognition of his plea, the state dismissed two counts of conspiracy to deliver cocaine, one count of possession of cocaine, one count of misprision of a felony, and one count of conspiracy to harbor a criminal.

“When a police officer breaks the law, he breaks the trust of the community making it more difficult for all law enforcement to do their job,” said Attorney General Peter Kilmartin.

Colanduano was one of four Providence police officers caught up in Operation Deception, a major state drug investigation.
